The Sausalito Arts Commission is currently
accepting applications for new members! We
are looking for dynamic individuals who wish
to have an impact on shaping public art policy
and promoting and protecting the interests
of our local art community.
You must have a minimum of 10 hours per month
to volunteer and be a resident of Sausalito
to serve as a voting member on the Arts Commission.
We have two seats for non-voting advisory members,
who do not have to be residents of Sausalito.
You must attend all our meetings which are
typically held in the evening of the first
Wednesday of each month.
Our full compliment is 9 voting members
and 2 non-voting advisory members.
Historically many of our greatest assets and
contributors have been
non-voting Advisory Members, who's opinions
have held much weight, helped shape policy
and greatly influenced votes.
We are currently rebuilding the Arts Commission
and are bringing together a new group of members
to redefine our role in our community.
With the completion of the restoration of
Sergio Castillo's sculpture "Hermandad" and
many positive changes that have come about
over the last year, this is an exciting time
to join the Arts Commission. We will be setting
out to redefine our roll in the community and
have the ability to reshape our organization
to fit the character of our new members. On
the heels of likely our greatest accomplishment
and the realization of a six year effort to
restore "Hermandad," we are poised to accomplish
great things in upcoming years, spring-boarding
off this milestone.
The City of Sausalito has been working together
with the Arts Commission to assist us in becoming
a more potent and productive force in our local
community. We have finally realized stronger
relations with city administrators who wish
to facilitate the reforms we need to accomplish
our goals more readily.
If you wish to be a part of this exciting
time in our organization and be a part of the
re-making of the Sausalito Arts Commission,
we encourage you to apply to become a member.
Interviews will be taking place after City
Council comes back from break in likely October.
If you have any questions about the responsibilities
of the Arts Commission and what it means to
be a member, do not hesitate to contact us
so we may field any questions you may have
about the position and our organization.
